Water is Basic

Last week, my lecturer in Popular Writing class, Mr. Arido, challenged us to write a 300 words essay with a given title Water is Basic. It takes four days for me to finally get the idea to write the essay with given title from my lecturer, which means, I found it difficult to write something with limited idea. However, he said that when it comes to Popular Writing, we should do a research and provide a clear information to the readers. Please also note that if we research something and get inspired by that essay, we should put the reference below our writing. This should be done to avoid Plagiarism, because nowadays, this issue becomes the most important thing that a writer should remember.

I spent about three hours just to do a research and create a framework for my essay and other two and half hours to write the essay. This is the result:

Water is Basic

Water plays a significant role in every living creature. In fact, water lies inside almost every living creature’s body, particularly humans. This important aspect is needed in both domestic or non-domestic necessities, for example, drinking water supply, sanitation needs, irrigation, or even manufacturing demands. This intends that humans and water are two objects that could not be separated. Therefore, water supply is the key to keep the life cycle balanced.

However, clean water supply preservation becomes an enormous concern to human-being as the main consumer due to lacking quality and evenness distribution of water. Developed countries such as Japan, the United States, or Singapore could easily obtain clean water to fulfill daily necessities while other developing countries find obstacles to get water for their daily needs. It is said that 66,3 million out of 320 billion still have no access to get water. Lacking clean water will be resulting in the growth of death and illness number around the world. It is also said that in every 24 hours, around 1.000 children died because of diarrhea and unhealthy sanitation.

This issue was brought to the United Nations General Assembly and in 2015, water became one of important points in the Sustainable Development Goals. Water solution is placed in the sixth point of SDGs which proclaims as clean water and sanitation. It has six targets in 2030 which says that clean water supply should be prevalent, water quality will be increased by reducing pollution and hazardous waste disposal into water, and water resource maintenance should be amplified. These goals certainly need everyone’s help to be achieved.

There are several profitable or non-profitable organizations which help developing countries to secure clean water and sanitation such as Water is Basic. Helping Sudan since 2006, this non-profit organization creates water resources for fulfilling Sudanese’s daily necessities in water. Other organization, Charity: Water helps children to get access to clean water by carrying big yellow galloons to developing countries that are experiencing water crisis. Our contributions as individuals are also needed to achieve the goal. By optimizing water usage properly, we can help our current and next generations to live sustainably.
